Building of the Week - 2nd ed.

225 Rector Place

HELLO and welcome back to Sara's building of the week! Nothing I am about to say should be taken as completely credible as I love to skim read and misinterpret lots of things. Now without further ado, let's learn about the wonderful, the glorious 225 Rector Place!!

Located in breezy Battery Park City, 225 Rector Place is quite possibly the best in the neighborhood. The building is surrounded by quaint parks, playgrounds, and walking paths. Standing at 23 stories tall, 225 has a luxurious lobby, business center, spacious laundry room, 2-story fitness center, children's room, sauna, and a rooftop deck with stunning views of the Hudson River. With ample amenities and friendly staff how can you not love living here?

Some history that I copy and pasted from Cocoran's website about this building (I added the hyperlinks because I find this cool):

"Developed by the real estate company, Related, 225 Rector Place features exquisite finishes and interiors by acclaimed designer Clodagh, a multi-talented designer who also envisioned interiors for The Caledonia, in 2008. Known for her innovative use of high-quality materials and adherence to eastern philosophies, Clodagh now brings this Modern Zen approach to Battery Park City. Using the natural surroundings as inspiration, Clodagh created interiors that are warm and welcoming while open, modern and decidedly downtown."

Sure, I guess! How insightful! It feels nice to know your building was designed by a woman. Maybe that's why it's so much nicer than all the surrounding buildings?

Fun Facts

  • Despite being built 10 whole years before energy efficiency ratings were enacted in NYC, 225 has an immaculate A rating for its energy efficiency (WOOOO F*CK YEAH!!). The same cannot be said about most downtown buildings! Is this because it was made by a woman? I can only speculate, but I would have to say yes, 100% that is why.

  • This building has a back entrance which is located in one of Manhattan's few alleyways. If you listen closely at the right time, you can hear a local couple having this conversation:

  • Person A: "let's take the back way" Person B: "noooooo I don't like stinky dark" Person A: "please don't call it that"

  • A current mystery taking place in this building: residents will pop into the gym just to fill up their water bottles at the fountain and then leave. This greatly disturbs timid gym-goers who are just trying to work out in peace. What the hell is that all about??

  • The rooftop is home to a mysterious bug. A very large black wasp-like creature haunts the bushes on the roof, terrorizing nearby tanning enthusiasts. Did it get swept up there by a gust of wind and is unable to fly back down? Will it survive this cold winter? One can only guess.

See you next week! Much love,

Sara
